A native of Israel, Mr. Shkury came to the United States in 1999 to earn an MBA in finance at the Wharton School of Business and a master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Combining the analytical skills he gained at Wharton with the unparalleled discipline he realized when he served as a lieutenant in the Israeli Army, Mr. Shkury rapidly became a force to be reckoned with in the world of New York real estate.
Entering the real estate industry in 2002, Shimon Shkury implemented an investment banking model designed to fit the special needs of clients by assembling a team of professionals with complementary skills in research, technology, branding, contact management, and analysis to provide support for his sales efforts.
After only 18 months in the industry, he was named a partner at Massey Knakal Realty Services in 2003. Leading the company’s expansion into Upper Manhattan and The Bronx, he has been involved in the sale of nearly $1.5 billion of commercial properties since then.
Shkury’s most recent sales (2009) included the two largest transactions in Northern Manhattan – The East Harlem HUD Portfolio, a 230 unit portfolio that sold for $26.9 million; and 1428 Fifth Avenue, a package that consisted of a 120 unit residential building and 180,000 square foot development site that sold for $21.95 million. Shkury and his team sold over $100 million in this challenging market.
Shkury devotes much of his spare time and resources to professional and nonprofit organizations. These include various leading positions with the Bronx Manhattan North Association of Realtors, the National Realty Club, the UJA Federation, The Rabin Medical Center, the Chabad Israel Center and the State of Israel Bonds Committee. He also works as an Adjunct Professor of Real Estate Investments for Yeshiva University; holds position on the Advisory Board for Legal Outreach, a Harlem-based after school program; and has hosted several fundraisers for the M anhattan School of Music.
Mr. Shkury lives in Manhattan with his wife, Dr. Ruby Gelman and son Ariel Moshe.
