The Lower East Side is a neighborhood located in Manhattan bordering Chinatown, NoLIta and the East Village.
As one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, the Lower East Side is home to an interesting blend of cultures. Known alternately in many areas as Loisaida, the Lower East Side has been a haven for artists and musicians. Since the emergence of the neighborhood's nouveau bohemian scene, bars, boutiques and restaurants have sprouted up right and left, residents have found themselves in the middle of one of the city's newest cultural explosions.
